Founded in 1945 and based in Echizen, Fukui, Takamura Hamono is a family-run forge now led by third-generation blacksmith Terukazu Takamura, alongside his two younger brothers. Known for their refined craftsmanship and technical innovation, Takamura Hamono has become synonymous with elegant, high-performance blades.

Early pioneers in the use of powder metallurgy steels, they were among the first to work successfully with Super Gold (SG2), a material prized for its extraordinary hardness and long-lasting edge retention. Their knives are precisely balanced, exceptionally finished, and exhibit a clean, modern aesthetic without compromising the soul of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

Each piece from Takamura Hamono reflects a rare combination of innovation and heritage, offering world-class performance with a quiet, understated beauty.

Takamura Tsuchime Santoku 170mm

This knife cuts like a dream. Best performing Santoku that I have. Opted for the VG10 over the SG2 as it's more robust. Light, nimble and beautiful knife. Came well packed and delivered quickly. Well done on your fantastic service. Definitely veyeing your other Takamura knives in the range

Lovely 170mm Santoku knife

This knife is very attractive and feels good in my hand. Since it is stainless steel it will need careful attention to keep it sharp, but I’m happy to do that.
