La Perle des Dieux Sardines with Olives and Rosemary
This one takes you straight to the Mediterranean coast. The little silver fish from Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie get a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and are dressed up with carefully selected olives and rosemary, so they come out flavourful and gently perfumed. Open the tin and the slices of black and green olives are arranged like a little gourmet painting. About La Perle des Dieux
La Perle des Dieux is a well known French sardine brand with a history going all the way back to 1887, rooted in the fishing port of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie on the Atlantic coast. It was started by the Gendreau family and is still run by them four generations on, with the same focus on quality and craftsmanship throughout. They work with sustainably caught sardines, hand packed in a range of gourmet sauces and oils, and they've built a real reputation for holding onto the artisanal methods while looking after the marine environment too. The packaging is worth a mention as well: often designed by local artists, so the tins are as much a visual treat as a culinary one.
