Introducing

Sakai Takayuki

Manufactured in Sakai, Japan, Sakai Takayuki knives are world renowned for their quality, durability, and precision. Sakai has a rich history of knife making, with the crafting of samurai swords in this area dating back over 600 years. Today, it is estimated that approximately 90% of Japanese chef knives come from Sakai.Master craftsman Mr. Keijiro Doi oversees the operations, as does his son Itsuo Doi, Keido Sugihara, and Yukinori Oda.

Blade Type

The Gyuto is the general purpose chef knife to suit many tasks, including cutting larger meats and vegetables. It is the most commonly found knife type in many professional kitchens around the world.

Steel Type

VG10 is perhaps the most common of the stainless steels found in Japanese knives. Made by Takefu Special Steel, it’s quality and all round high performance make it a great choice for a knife with good edge holding, low maintenance, and low fragility. VG10 is slightly softer than it’s high-carbon steel counterparts, and as such can be more robust and hard-wearing.

Sakai Takayuki Kurokage Gyuto 210mm

Exceptional knife with a good hand feel and balance, still holding a good edge with only minimal honing even after some rigorous use. Love the fluorine coating which makes cleaning very easy. Highly recommended!

Have used quite a few knives from this store and all have been exceptional. So far, this is my favourite. It looks nice, has a really good blade on it and is really well balanced. Would definitely recommend.
